BYREDO Bal d’Afrique by Gabriel Moses

Byredo is introducing a retrospective of its most beloved scents through an annual series curated by its Founder and Creative Director, Ben Gorham. The series will comprise a group of creators who will use their preferred medium to tell their memories of the fragrance, bringing new life and perspectives to the familiar scents. The first fragrance to be highlighted in the series is Bal d’Afrique, which Gorham describes as “an imaginary journey as well as a complete celebration of how I see African culture and its influence.”

As part of the Bal d’Afrique 2023 chapter, Byredo has partnered with photographer and filmmaker Gabriel Moses, who seeks to capture the essence of the generations before him through the lens of current times. Through Bal d’Afrique film, Moses extends his personal visual invitation to his world, paying homage to the then and now of African culture and how it intertwines perfectly with everyday life. Moses captures the organic moments of transparent intimacy, an uncompromised reflection and celebration of what it is to be African.
