I guess I’m already there

What begins in order loosens through wear, on its way to being undone. A crisp shirt, a sharp fold, structured denim, everything in place. Later, the shirt is unbuttoned and draped over a chair, slack at the sleeve and softened at the edges. Jeans fall to the floor under their own weight. What was once smoothed, held and worn with intent is released into something looser, left slightly out of form as it lands. Folds remain, but no longer the precise kind. There is intimacy in that in-between state, as neatness comes undone.Then it starts again. Folded back into place, worn, removed and left to settle into itself, ready for the next wear and the next undoing.
