Nationally acclaimed Chinese actor Timmy Xu is eager to share his ever-growing love for rock’n’roll with the world. His new album Crossfever Interactive Love may take fans by surprise as he says, “I didn’t want to cater to the audience or the market this time, but wanted to be more real,” making this new addition to his discography the most authentic-feeling project he has released so far.  Timmy had his breakthrough as an actor staring in major roles on television series such as Honour Ping Pong and Genius Player. These roles allowed him to claim his place in the spotlight. Even though the star made a decision to pursue his music career, Timmy has no plans to put a pause on acting.

PUSS PUSS: What is the main source of inspiration for your new album Crossfever Interactive Love?
Timmy Xu: Every single one of my songs stem from different outlets of inspiration. In particularly, I wanted this album to be a rock album in terms of arrangement and composition. In my past discography, my music was directed towards a popular market which made it easier for marketing. I hope everyone will accept that this new sound of mine will be different from the past. My main goal is to showcase my love of rock to my fans.
PUSS PUSS: What does your creative process look like when writing songs?
Timmy Xu: I started off being a guitarist, so it makes sense that my creative process starts off with the instrument. I like to record the bounce clips on my phone and adjust accordingly after listening.
PUSS PUSS: What type of music do you listen to?
Timmy Xu: I’m not particularly stuck to a single type of genre. I enjoy listening to pop, rock, jazz as well as hip hop.
PUSS PUSS: When listening to songs, do you search for a specific song you’ve heard of, or do you listen to playlists?
Timmy Xu: I tend to explore what is in the recommended section everyday. From there I pick what I like and save it in my downloads.

PUSS PUSS: Knowing that you are filming a new movie, how do you prepare yourself for acting?
Timmy Xu: I usually start off by reading in-between the lines of the given script. It is important to me that I fully comprehend the characters physical appearance. For this instance, the personality of the character that I am adapting is incredibly outgoing and laid-back. The movie is set in the early 90s’ so I had to make sure that my hair was cut short and my eyebrows were trimmed very thin. In fact, I think that everyone in the 90s’ are all very trendy. I often wear similar clothes like the ones on set. For example, there is a certain leather jacket in my wardrobe that would fit into the 90s’ style.
PUSS PUSS: What is “fashion” to you?
Timmy Xu: I think fashion is reincarnation. Trends come and go, but they often return after a decade or two. That is why I believe it’s best to invest in quality basics for your closet. The simplest white t-shirt and jeans will never be outdated. It’s more fashionable in the long run.
PUSS PUSS: Do you style your day to day outfits? For example, when you go to the airport.
Timmy Xu: When I’m in the airport, I often attract more attention so my outfits are usually picked out by my stylist. However, my day to day style can be described as simple and comfortable.
PUSS PUSS: How do you prefer to dress every day?
Timmy Xu: When I dress myself I prefer comfort over anything. It usually consists of dark clothing and sometimes even dirty laundry (laughs).
PUSS PUSS: You have performed in the UK before, what was your impression of Britain at the time?
Timmy Xu: That trip was quite eventful. I travelled to the UK to perform with a band as a guitarist and singer. I remember I also shot for a magazine there as well. It was the first time I ever went to the UK, and I felt very comfortable there. Even though it is often cloudy and rainy, the weather doesn’t seem to have an affect on people. I also enjoyed UK’s culture, everyone seems to be very peaceful.
