Valentine’s Playlist by Lola Kirke

For all your lovers out there, the romantic beauty Lola Kirke has put together the perfect playlist – make sure to check out her Valentine’s Day single too!

What made you decide to write your own Valentines’ song?
Most of my songs are love songs to some extent, so the holiday seemed like a good excuse to put more out.
And what made you choose to cover Ted Lucas’ Baby Where Are You for the b-side?
Wyndham Garnett, the producer and other singer on the track, and I have been covering it for years at home and at parties and what not. We’d always planned on recording it at some point, because we loved how it worked as a duet (the original is not), so once again the occasion provided the perfect excuse!
What would you perfect Valentines date look like? Are you a fan of the day / tradition?
I had one where I ate a pink heart shaped donut from Dunkin Donuts and an Uber driver named Elvis drove me home.
Your debut LP Heart Head West discusses a lot of different themes. Do you feel you wear your heart on your sleeve, both in life, and in your music?
I gossip about myself constantly which isn’t always great but I guess that counts at wearing my heart on my sleeve. I’m not very mysterious. But I like to tell myself mystery is just another name for not knowing who you are to make myself feel better! But generally I’m grateful for music can be a mode of expression that is effective for me and I don’t want to waste that opportunity!
What are your 2019 plans? Can we expect you touring the UK?
Yes! I’m playing the Omeara on May 18th! Maybe some more shows too.
